The confinement prompted many men to shave their beards.
Others, seeing their hair thicken visibly, go further and choose to attack their hair.
But if it is easy to shave your chin, it is quite different for the rest of your head.

The hairdresser at home? Thank you for confinement!
The confinement will at least have had the merit of making some of their untapped talents aware. Everywhere, men (and women) are redoubling their creativity to try to pass the time and, sometimes to change their consumption pattern.
Since the start of this health crisis, we have given you advice on how to continue building muscle at home, without hurting yourself. We also tried to give you ideas for tinkering with this incredible giant Game Boy. Today, we are completely changing the register, trying to provide an answer that many of you are asking: how to cut your hair on your own?
Requests on the matter on Google have effectively exploded since March 17, the first day of confinement (like others, let’s be honest). Many men want to cut their hair on their own!
Here are some tips for trying to sport a fashionable hairstyle without the help of a professional hairdresser!
Basic tips for cutting your own hair
If you thought it wasn’t hard to become a hairdresser, you might quickly change your mind. Especially since cutting your hair alone takes on an additional difficulty: you cannot have a direct vision of the top of your head or the back of your neck …
We choose the right material
You don’t go to war when you don’t have the proper weapons. Well, it’s the same before you tackle your mane. First of all, choose your workspace well, preferably in your bathroom, facing a mirror! The ideal is to have a second mirror behind you: the puzzle game will allow you to have a look at the back of your neck.
If you have long or shoulder-length hair, forget your round-tipped school scissors and opt for sharp, fine scissors. This will be essential for shortening the ends and clearing your eyes or ears.
Naturall y, a trimmer will be more suitable if you have short hair. And above all, it is the best solution to cut your hair by yourself at home!
We prepare our hair well
To cut your hair on your own, you have to start by preparing the ground! A hairdresser will always shampoo you before starting their actual job. It’s the same at home: wash your hair well and you comb to detangle your mane and remove any knots!
Divide the hair well with a parting in the middle (no fear, this is only temporary) so that the volume is well distributed. You can optionally use a clip on the top of the head if you have long hair.
For the rest, we recommend the cut on dry hair. Wet hair tends to “shorten” (at least, come up) as it dries and you may end up with too short a cut or too many bangs.
We cut little by little
Since you are not a professional, avoid rushing into the heap! Better to do it three times to reach the desired length than to cut 3 centimetres and realize that it is much too short!
In the same way, do not take a large handful of hair in your hands and the comb: we cut in strips 5mm wide at most. Then check the result by pulling (not too hard) your hair, perpendicular to the root. If all the hair is the same length, that’s fine, you can move on to the next section!
We try to ask for an outside opinion!
If you have a child, a parent, a roommate or a lover on hand, now is the time to bring him/her in (you could also have asked him/her to cut your hair, but that is another story).
To be sure that the result is up to your expectations, nothing beats the advice of an outside person. This can guide you to equalize certain heights, finalize an earloop or the bottom of the neck …
The best solution to cut your hair on your own? Shaved head!
Finally, we are not going to lie to each other: the radical solution to avoid having a hole in the hair or an ugly degradation is obviously to… cut everything! But again, you still have to be careful to follow certain instructions to sport a beautiful bald head.
Advice on how to shave your head well …
We have already talked about it in this article dedicated to the subject, but a reminder is in order. If you had longer hair so far, you need to do a clipper first pass. Some machines allow you to shave properly, but it is best to use a razor to get beautiful, smooth skin.
The choice of razor
But be careful, we do not use just any razor! Alongside the versatile Philips OneBlade Pro, the Gillette Body remains our favourite all-terrain razor, but in any case, it is essential to have new or at least sharp blades.
Think about shaving gel and to maintain it
Just before shaving your scalp, spread yourself on some shaving gel. This will moisturize the remaining hair, and above all will improve the glide of the razor while protecting your skin, in order to avoid cuts.
Finally, note that the skin of the skull is fragile in places, so limit the passage of the blade: twice in the same place, three times at most. You can shave your hair from front to back the first time, then backwards the second time. Obviously, remember to rinse your blades regularly.
If the three-day beard has its followers, the “three-day skull” (or a little more) is more likely to make you look like a neglected man or one who does not take responsibility for his baldness. Once you have decided to shave everything, be sure to maintain your ridge well.
After shaving and once your scalp is dry, you just need to go through your usual aftershave. As such, the soothing gel from Horace, mixing menthol and aloe vera, is always our preference.
And then, if we take into account the fact that the hair grows by a millimetre every three days, it will be necessary to repeat the operation regularly (2 times a week for a nice billiard ball!).
Last advice, because we don’t always think about it, but in summer, sunscreen can be essential: a sunburn on the head can be very painful, gentlemen! And we don’t even tell you about the result on your look!
Whether you choose to refresh your mane or take it all off, you now have all the cards in your hands to get your hair cut right on your own at home. Finally, remember that if you don’t like the result, confinement will not be eternal: your usual hairdresser will be delighted to find your hair once this delicate period is over… and this happiness will undoubtedly be mutual!
